Wednesday 13 March marked a special occasion at Velonetic as we welcomed a group of students, from backgrounds underrepresented in insurance, and alumni from The University of Sheffield to our space on Gallery 4 of the Lloyd’s building. It was an afternoon filled with insights, connections, and opportunities as we explored the world of insurance and career possibilities within our dynamic industry.
Our CEO, Chris Halbard, a proud Sheffield University alum, kicked off the event by sharing his personal journey post-graduation. His story is not just about climbing the corporate ladder but about the skills developed and challenges overcome along the way, culminating in him leading Velonetic and spearheading the digital transformation of the insurance marketplace.
Our presentations provided an overview of Velonetic and the insurance sector as a whole. We spoke to the students about our rich history, and Steve Pallet from Lloyd’s gave some insight on the roots of Lloyd's and touched on some historical risks that have shaped the industry.
We didn’t stop there! Instead, a small group of Velonetic colleagues shone a light on the many different and diverse career pathways available within insurance, extending beyond the conventional roles of broking and underwriting.
Through engaging sessions and interactive activities, our guests discovered roles in marketing, communications, learning and development, transformation, human resources, project management, sales, customer relationship management, and more. The 'Guess Who' session added a fun twist, challenging attendees to match speakers with their respective roles, highlighting the diversity of career paths available.
Following the presentations and Q&A, we transitioned into a networking session, bridging the gap between students and alumni. This provided students with the chance to interact directly with industry professionals, gaining valuable insights and asking any questions they had about potential career paths.
As we reflect on this event, we are so pleased with the knowledge shared, connections made, and opportunities uncovered. It was more than just a gathering; it is a testament to our commitment to nurturing talent, encouraging diversity, and empowering future leaders within the insurance industry.
